Sea Women Great Barrier Reef 2024

The 2024 Sea Women Great Barrier Reef training program brought together six Indigenous women from the Torres Straits Islands, North Queensland, and Papua New Guinea, along with rangers and mentors Olivia Mooka and Francis Joyce, who completed the program last year, and Sea Women of Melanesia-PNG Director Naomi Longa.

Over the course of 4 amazing weeks on Yunbenun, Magnetic Island, the women developed skills in snorkelling, photographic reef surveys, scuba diving, small boat handling, advanced first aid, GPS use and maritime expedition planning. Equally important is the provision of a safe learning space where women can network together and share life stories, culture, and aspirations for their future work on and around the ocean.
